The Club held its annual evening cruise on Dwight Smith's boat, the Azalea. We cruised around Saquish Head to The Gurnet, and returned by the inside passage between Saquish Neck and Clark's Island. Snacks of cheese and hummus, provided by Razia, and Lobster rolls, provided by Jack, were a special treat on this beautiful, calm evening. As we returned to the Town Dock, the sun began to set, lighting up the clouds in the sky and the boats in the harbor. A wonderful time was had by all.

Annual Pancake Breakfast a Success! With support from over fifty local businesses and attendance by hundreds of Duxbury residents, the club was able to raise over $3000 towards our scholarship program. Attendees dined on pancakes, sausage, and fresh strawberries. Entertainment was provided by Duxbury High School musicians. Children had their faces painted and received colorful balloons, and mothers each were given fresh pink carnations. Gift baskets, donated by Macy's and local merchants, were raffled-off at the end of the breakfast.

The New Zabuli Education Center in Deh'Subz, Afghanistan, Opens. Years of hope, planning and hard work have paid off for Razia Jan and the Duxbury Rotary Club--the dream of building a school for girls in her native Afghanistan were realized this spring, when The Zabuli Education Center in the village of Deh'Subz, near Kabul, was offically opened by Ministers of the Afghan national government and local community leaders. Over the past three years Razia has traveled several times to Afghanistan to select a site for the school, negotiate with the government, oversee construction and hire staff. The amazing story of one woman's crusade to help girls oppressed by the Taliban captured the attention of local writer and columnist Bruce Barrett. Together, Razia and Bruce traveled to Afghanistan to represent the Duxbury Rotary Club, witness the school opening and hear first hand the community's hopes and dreams for this amazing place.

Over 200 children have already enrolled in the school, and plans call for classes for adult women, as well. The Duxbury Rotary Club is seeking sponsors for the children--the cost of educating one girl for a year is $225, and covers books, supplies, meals and operating expenses for the school. Only half of the children are sponsored--we need your help! To learn more about sponsoring a girl at the Zabuli school, please visit www.thezabulischool.org.
